Home Inspector Qualifying Education (QE) Questions

The following questions pertain to Real Estate Qualifying Education (QE) and are commonly asked by people who want to earn a Sales Agent license in Texas.

Can I take the classes at a campus?

The qualifying Professional Home Inspector classes (90-Hour, 40-Hour, and 200-Hour) are all completed online. The interactive class and ride along sessions are completed at a Champions campus location.

What are the experience requirements?

In order to become a Professional Inspector, one of the following requirements must be met in addition to completing the qualifying classes:

  • 24-Hour interactive class and 40-Hour ride along experience courses
  • Three years as an active licensed professional engineer, engineer-in-training, or licensed/registered architect (provide a license history)
  • Five years personal experience in a field directly related to home inspecting (provide two affidavits from persons with personal knowledge of applicant's work detailing the time and nature of the applicant's relevant experience).

Will my previous experience count toward the license?

To confirm that your previous experience will meet TREC experience requirements, we recommend submitting your state application prior to choosing a Champions program. In addition to the application, please mail your application fee and supporting documents to TREC. TREC will review your application and experience and confirm which classes will be required.
Please Note - You will have one year from the filing of your application to complete the education and experience requirements or will need to reapply.

What is the difference between a Professional Home Inspector and a Real Estate Inspector?

A Professional Home Inspector is able to inspect residential properties and, unless prohibited by law, commercial properties. Please check with the Texas Board of Professional Engineering to determine when a Professional Engineering license is required. Professional Inspectors are able to work for themselves.

A Real Estate Inspector is only able to inspect residential properties and is required to work under a Professional Inspector.

How long does the course take to complete?

The qualifying classes (90-Hour, 40-Hour, and 200-Hour) are all self-paced online. For this reason, the length of time to complete the classes will vary from person to person.

How much is the application fee?

Please visit the TREC fee schedule for more information on application fees: https://www.trec.texas.gov/agency-informaiton/fee-schedule

Can I make payments on the course?

Champions offers a payment plan for the 394-Hour Professional Inspector course. Please contact a career counselor today for more information about the payment plan and our Military discount program.

Are the books available online?

The textbooks are not available in PDF format. All Home Inspection material can be shipped ($8.00 per material) or picked up from a Champions campus for free.

How does the online exam proctoring system work?

All Home Inspector QE course exams must be proctored. Upon passing all of the required Topic Quizzes online, you will be able to select a Proctoring session for the exam. If you wish to take advantage of our online proctoring system and have the exam proctored from your home, select the "Live Remote" option (a webcam is required) from the first dropdown menu and then select a time slot from the second dropdown menu and click the "Submit" button.

Once a selection has been made, you will receive an automated email containing a link that can be used to access the proctoring session during your selected time. Once you are successfully logged into the proctoring session, the Proctor will verify your ID and then unlock the exam. You will then be able to access the exam via the start button the "Class Information" screen and you will have two hours to work on it. If you do not finish the exam during that time, your exam will be graded based upon the questions that have been answered. If you do not receive a passing grade, you will need to schedule a retake or pay the necessary course topic retake fee if you have failed the exam twice.
