5 Easy Steps to Obtaining a Texas Real Estate Broker License
Step
Step 1: Satisfy the TREC Experience and Broker Education Requirements
With a TREC-Approved college Bachelor degree and four years of active experience in the Real Estate industry, you may be closer thank you think to satisfying the TREC Broker licensing requirements.
- 720 Experience Points in 4 of the last 5 years (View Qualifying Experience Report Form)
- 900 Total Education Hours
- 270 Hours of core real estate courses
- All approved QE, SAE, and MCE courses taken to date
- A college Bachelor's degree will count for 300 hours towards your Broker's license
- 30-hour Texas Real Estate Brokerage course (the Real Estate Brokerage course cannot be taken more than two years before applying for the real estate broker license)
- The 6-hour Broker Responsibility Course
- Courses taken for credit from an accredited college or university in any of the following areas: accounting, advertising, architecture, business or management, construction, finance, investments, law, and marketing
- Certificates and hours from Champions School of Real Estate never expire towards real estate broker education licensing
Without TREC-Approved college bachelor's degree, you need to have a total of 900 course hours. All previous Texas Real Estate courses (including CE, designations, and all electives) will count towards your 900 hours. Step 2: Submit your Broker License Application and all of the Required Educational Documents to the TREC "MyLicense" System
Once you have completed your courses at Champions, you will now need to submit your education and brokers application to TREC in the "My License" system on the Texas Real Estate Commission's website at www.trec.texas.gov. Click on "Begin Here for Sign-Up" and follow the steps to create an account. Once an account is created you will apply for a new license. The application fee for a Real Estate Brokers license is $305.
If you have college credit or a college degree, you will need to scan and send in your education documents via email to documents@trec.texas.gov or fax copies to 512-936-3864.

Step 3: Take the State Exam Prep Class at Champions School of Real Estate
Once you have submitted your application to TREC, it can take them as long as four weeks to review your application and education. During this review period, we highly recommend that you complete the Real Estate Exam Prep course to ensure that you are prepared for the State and National Exam. This class will take the guesswork and stress out of testing. You may repeat the course as many times as you want for six months after registration at no additional cost to you! We recommend taking the Prep class at least two times and passing with an 80% or better before taking the actual exam.

Step 4: Receive Your Letter from the State and Take the State Broker License Exam at Pearson VUE
Once you receive your exam eligibility letter and instructions to access the "Candidate Handbook" from TREC, you must schedule to take your exam with Pearson Vue. Appointments can be made by calling (800) 997-1248 or visiting ww.pearsonvue.com/tx/realestate/. The cost is $39 payable to Pearson Vue.
About the Exam - Similar to the Sales Agent exam, the Texas Real Estate Broker state exam is divided into two sections, National and State, and will consist of 145 questions (85 National / 60 State) which include pretest questions that are not scored and do not affect a candidate's score.
You have a total of 4 hours to complete the exam. You must answer 60 questions correctly on the national examination and 38 questions correctly on the state examination to pass. Step 5: Wait for your License to Arrive
You cannot practice real estate as a Texas Real Estate Broker until you have received a physical copy of your brokers license.
