6 Steps to get your
Texas Loan Officer License

  Complete the necessary 60-hour pre-licensing educational course at Champions School of Real Estate®.

The course contains 54-hours of Core material plus 4-hours of Ethics. This course satisfies the current Texas Savings & Mortgage Lending Department's (TSML) educational requirement to obtain your Loan Officer's license.

Register for our 1-day Loan Officer/Mortgage Broker Exam PREP course. Course cost is only $90 pre-paid. Course Time is 9am - 4pm. Remember, once you pay the initial fee for the PREP you may re-take our PREP as many times as you want for FREE!

 Register for, take and pass the licensing examination for either Loan Officer or Mortgage Broker through Pearson Vue (800) 275-8246.

The state exam fee is $42 plus an additional $17.50 for fingerprinting. Total Exam Fee: $59.50. Re-takes will be $42.

   • Student must arrive no less than 30 minutes prior to administration.
     *If space is available, candidate will need to telephone the toll-free number to register and pay for examination.

Exam Information for Loan Officer and Mortgage Brokers

• 75 computer generated multiple choice questions.
• 2 hour time limit for English Version
• 3 hour time limit for Spanish and ESL version

Student will receive exam site information at our PREP class

 Passing candidates submit the following to the Texas Savings and Mortgage Lending Department:

• A complete license application - available through TSML website www.sml.state.tx.us or by calling TSML at (512) 475-1350
• The application fee for:
  • Mortgage Brokers - Total Fee: $434
    • $375 Application Fee
    • $20 Mortgage Broker Recovery Fund
    • $39 to cover the cost of an FBI/DPS criminal history background check.
  • Loan Officers - Total Fee: $334
    • $275 Application Fee
    • $20 Mortgage Broker Recovery Fund
    • $39 to cover the cost of an FBI/DPS criminal history background check

Submit license application with appropriate fees along with passing score report to the Texas Savings and Mortgage Lending. Mail to: 2601 N. Lamar, Suite 201 , Austin , Texas 78705 .

  Congratulations!

If qualified, the Texas Savings and Mortgage Lending will issue your license.
