7 Steps to meeting
Texas Brokers License Requirements and obtaining your Texas Real Estate Broker License

Texas Brokers License Step 1  Complete the required experience and take the required Texas broker license courses at Champions School of Real Estate®.

With a TREC-Approved college bachelors degree, you may only need 2 more 30-hour courses to satisfy the 900-hours to meet your Texas Brokers license education requirements.

  • At least 2 years experience as an active Texas Real Estate Salesperson
  • 270 Hours of core real estate courses
    • includes all the Texas Real Estate Courses taken to date
  • 630 Hours of Classroom hours in related courses
    • A college Bachelors degree will count for 630 hours towards your Brokers license
  • one Texas Real Estate Brokerage course - 30-Hours
Without TREC-Approved college bachelors degree, you need to have a total of 900 course hours. All previous Texas Real Estate courses will count towards your 900 hours. 27 Texas Real Estate Brokers 30-hour courses are available in the Classroom, Fast Track, Correspondence, and Online-Correspondence formats and discounted package pricing is available.

Texas Brokers License Step 2 Submit the Evaluation of Education Documents form to the Texas Real Estate Commission

Once you have met the Texas Real Estate Brokers license requirements, submit a copy of your certificates of completion for each course, a copy of your college transcript, and the Evaluation of Education Documents form to the Texas Real Estate Commission. Please include a $30 check or money order payable to TREC. NOTE: Do not send the original course completion certificates or college transcript. Only photocopies of original transcripts and certificates are required.

Texas Brokers License Step 3 Submit your Application for an Inactive license to TREC

After your education has been evaluated and approved, you can submit the Application for Broker License by an Individual (at www.trec.state.tx.us) or by mail along with $300 payable to TREC. The Texas Real Estate Commission requests that you complete the application online. If applying online, approval is typically granted in 2 days. By mail, TREC will take about 7-10 days to approve.

Texas Brokers License Step 4 Take the Real Estate Exam Prep Class at Champions School of Real Estate®

While your application is being evaluated, we strongly recommend that you complete the Brokers state Prep course to ensure you are ready for the State Exam. This class takes the guess work and stress out of testing and you may repeat the course as many times as you want for free up to a full year!

Texas Brokers License Step 5 Receive Your Letter from the State & Schedule Your State Exam

Once you receive your approval letter and the "Candidate Information Brochure" (CIB) from TREC, you must schedule to take your exam with PSI Examination Services. Appointments can be made by calling (800) 733-9267 or visiting www.psiexams.com. The cost is $59 payable to PSI. You must pass the exam with a 70% or higher and you will know if you have passed the exam before you leave the testing center. NOTE: You must pass the state exam within 6 months of the application approval.

Texas Brokers License Step 6  Take the State Exam at PSI.

Similar to the salesperson exam, the texas real estate brokers state exam is divided into two sections, National and State, and will consist of 110 questions with a total of 2.5 hours to complete the exam. 80 Questions will be on the National section with 1.45 hours to complete, while 40 questions will be on the State section with 45 minutes to complete. You will know if you have passed the exam before you leave the testing center.

Texas Brokers License Step 7  Wait for license to arrive

You cannot practice real estate as a Texas Real Estate Broker until you have received a physical copy of your brokers license.
