Texas Appraisal License Steps 1 Complete the core educational requirements at Champions School of Real Estate®.

Complete your required courses totaling 150-hours:

  • 30-hour Basic Appraisal Principles, Appraisal I (30 hrs AQE)
  • 30-hour Basic Appraisal Procedures, Appraisal II (30 hrs AQE)
  • 15-hour Residential Market Analysis and Highest and Best Use, Appraisal III (15 hrs AQE)
  • 15-hour Residential Site Valuation and Cost Approach, Appraisal IV (15 hrs AQE)
  • 30-hour Residential Sales Comparison and Income Approaches, Appraisal V (30 hrs AQE)
  • 15-hour Residential Report Writing for Appraisers, Appraisal VI (15 hrs AQE)
  • 15-hour Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) (15 hrs AQE)
    • This course must be completed within 24-months of filing your TALCB application.

Texas Appraisal License Steps 2 Complete your 2000 hours of experience over a minimum of a 12-month period.

The Texas Appraiser’s Licensing Certification Board (TALCB) requires that you legally complete 2000 hours of experience supported by written reports prior to receiving your license.  You must be sponsored and supervised by a Certified Appraiser ($75 Trainee application fee to TALCB).  This generally equates to 250-300 residential appraisals.  If you qualify under the new licensing requirements, you may take longer than 12 months.  

Texas Appraisal License Steps 3 Take the State Exam Prep course at Champions School of Real Estate®.

After completing your required courses, we strongly recommend that you complete the Texas State Exam Prep Course to ensure you are prepared for the Texas State Appraiser License Exam.

Texas Appraisal License Steps 4 Submit your Licensed Appraiser Application to TALCB.

Submit completed application and all required forms, including copies of all course certificates and $175 application fee to the TALCB. Note: You must be at least 18 years of age and a legal resident of Texas for at least 60 days immediately before filing your application. Applications are located at www.talcb.state.tx.us.

Texas Appraisal License Steps 5 Take the State Exam at Pearson Vue.

Your State Exam will consist of 135 multiple choice questions with a total of four hours to complete the exam. The cost is $100 payable to Pearson Vue. Appointments can be made by calling (800) 275-8246 or visiting www.PearsonVue.com. You will know if you have passed the exam before you leave the testing center.

Congratulations! As a Licensed Appraiser, you may appraise Residential 1-4 non-complex properties with a transaction value of less than $1,000,000 and complex properties with a transaction value of less than $250,000.
